Preface

A curriculum embodies the aspirations a community holds for the next generation of learners. When these aspirations are specified as expected outcomes the education standards are transparent for learners, teachers and parents. Victoria’s curriculum and standards framework makes it clear what students should know and be able to do. CSF II has been benchmarked nationally and internationally to ensure its standards are challenging and comparable with expectations in like countries.

CSF II clarifies expectations; creates space in the early years for a focus on literacy and numeracy; embeds information and communication technology skills in all key learning areas; integrates civics and citizenship education and national literacy and numeracy benchmarks into the framework and makes explicit the pathways from the compulsory years to further education and training.

Educators, specialists and community groups have contributed to the review of the CSF through successive consultation phases. Their feedback has informed the revised CSF and ensured it is feasible and equips Victoria’s students to participate in work, community and family contexts locally and globally.

Staff at the Board of Studies have worked tirelessly to integrate the views from consultations. Outstanding leadership and project management have been provided by Ms Chris Kotur, who has coordinated all stages of production with a keen intellect and eye for detail.

Members of the CSF Advisory Committee commend the revised framework as a robust basis for program planning and reporting in schools.
