Structure of the key learning area

Substrands

Each strand is organised into four substrands which are also the same for all stages. The Communication substrand sets the context, and is the principal substrand of the ESL Companion. The other three substrands, Contextual understanding, Linguistic structures and features, and Strategies are grouped together as 'Aspects of language'.
